"And art exists that one may recover the sensation of life; it exists to make one feel things, to make the stone stony. . . ." --Victor Shklovsky
"No matter how sophisticated you may be, a large granite mountain cannot be denied -- it speaks in silence to the very core of your being." -- Ansel Adams
nature true
you see the sweetness and the kindness,
full of compassion and sympathy
but you overlook the crying of your children
and your ears are deaf to the practical needs
of all your forgotten responsibilities
you see the realm of your own world
stacks of objects obstructing
an entrance into the outer realm
where more exists
but less for you
you see the opportunity for gain alone
and freely risk what is not yours to gamble
you are no respecter of individual
integrity because you are not concerned with lasting
impressions as an immediacy of gratification
presses upon your subversive passions
how to be,
how not to be,
filling reality with illusions,
in finding the emptiness of this apparent feast
you are prepared to look
to look for something greater
to discover a place where
illusion falls away
and the path is straight
and way is bright
and the earth is honest
and the voice from the soul
speaks a pure nature that
is as true as a mountain's existence
